IVRCL Infra bags Hogenakkal water project

The Hyderabad-based IVRCL Infrastructures and Projects Ltd has been awarded a Rs 237-crore contract under the Hogenakkal water supply and fluorosis mitigation project. The project with a permanent water source is being implemented by the Tamil Nadu Government at a cost of Rs 1,928.80 crore.
This project will cater to Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts and benefit the present population of 30 lakh. The project has been divided into 5 packages.
The package-I consists of components such as intake structures, raw water pumping station, raw water pump set, raw water pumping main, treatment plant to a capacity of 156 million litre per day, clear water pumping main, booster pumping station, master balancing reservoir of 240 lakh litres and providing Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition system (SCADA).

Hogenakkal project work on at good pace, says Stalin

Implementation of Hogenakkal Drinking Water and Fluorosis Mitigation Scheme is on at a fairly good pace, and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam government, which took up the project, is fully satisfied with the progress of the work from Phase I to Phase V, Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin said at Harur in Dharmapuri on Tuesday.
After inaugurating the Rs.203-crore Phase III and Phase V works of the project, Mr. Stalin told reporters that the work orders were issued on October 22 this year, and pointed to the speed with which various components of the project were being taken up for execution.
Phase III of the project envisaged water supply from the scheme to Harur, Kadathur, Kambainallur, Pappireddypatti and some other town panchayats under Harur, Morappur and Pappireddypatti Panchayat Unions.
Mr. Stalin also inaugurated the construction of an overhead tank and a sump under the project. Phase I of the project would be over by April 2012. Fifteen per cent of the construction work for Phase I was completed. Work on Phase II would be over by 2012, Phase IV by September 2012. The entire scheme would be completed, as intended, by December 2012.
When asked about the criticism by the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam that the project had not progressed, Mr. Stalin said he could prove that the work was on at the desired pace and the leader of the AIADMK (Jayalalithaa) could inspect the implementation.
Later, the Deputy Chief Minister laid the foundation for 28 works that would be carried out at Rs.17 crore.
He inaugurated 1,870 development works at Rs.40.46 crore and also gave away welfare assistance to 9,903 persons at Rs.36.79-crore at a function at Government Boys Higher Secondary School here.
Declaring open a samathuvapuram in Sundangipatti village, Mr. Stalin said the samathuvapuram scheme initiated by the DMK government during its rule between 1996 and 2001 was kept in abeyance by the AIADMK government (2001-2006). He said the least the AIADMK government could have done was maintain the 145 samathuvapurams established by the DMK government. Hence, the DMK government, which came to power in 2006, allocated Rs.16.80 crore for the maintenance of the samathuvapurams.
Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi announced another 95 samathuvapurams and the government had already established 29 during 2008-09. Of the 30 projects taken up in 2009-10, 14 had been opened already and the one inaugurated on Tuesday at Sundangipatti was the 15{+t}{+h}.
The rest of the samathuvapurams would opened before February 15, 2011. Another 36 will be established during the financial year 2011-12.
Mr. Stalin said that so far he had distributed revolving funds to 1,78,437 Self Help Groups in the last four-and-a-half years.
Communist Party of India (Marxist) MLA P. Dillibabu called upon the government to extend the Kalaignar Veetu Vasathi Thittam to hilly areas and tribal villages.

The Rs 1,928.8 crore Hogenakkal Drinking Water Supply and Fluorosis Mitigation Project works were under progress and potable drinking water would be supplied in Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts before the stipulated project completion period of 2012, Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister M K Stalin said today.
Speaking to reporters after inspecting the ongoing works of the Japanese aided project and water treatment plant and construction of two ground level reservoirs of 120 lakh litre capacity each in Madam village,Stalin said as per instructions from Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, the works on these projects were were being included under 'special care'.
He said works on the projects were scheduled to be completed in five phases in two segments.
The first segment comprised of 1,2,3 and 4 phases which were started on February 22 this year and scheduled to be completed within 30 months.
The water treatment works were started on April 14, he said.
The works for the second phase was inaugurated today for the construction of six lakh litre water capacity ground level reservoir (GLR) in Dharmapuri town and 14 lakh litre water capacity GLR work in Savulur village in Nallampalli union.
He said all the works were being undertaken within the Tamil Nadu border and there was no violation of crossing borders to Karnataka.
Earlier, Stalin launched the newly constructed Rs 4.90 crore Pennagaram Town Panchayat Drinking Water Development Scheme.

The construction work of the Hogenakkal Drinking Water and Fluorosis Mitigation Scheme is on fast pace and the DMK government which took the initiative is fully satisfied the with the progress of the work from Phase I to Phase V, said M.K. Stalin, Deputy Chief Minister here on Tuesday.
After inaugurating the Phase III and Phase V of the Hogenakkal Project in Harur at a cost of Rs. 203.56-crore, Mr. Stalin told the newsmen that the Government Order for the same was issued on October 22 this year. Phase III of the project envisages water supply from the scheme to Harur, Kadathur, Kambainallur, Pappireddypatti and some other town panchayat comes under the Harur, Morappur and Pappireddypatti Panchayat Unions. He also inaugurated the construction of the Over Head Tank and the ground level water storage tank.
Construction work of the Phase I of the project would be over by April 2012. Fifteen per cent of the construction work for Phase I is almost completed. Work on Phase II would be over by 2012, Phase IV by September 2012 and Phase V by 2012 December. Totally Rs. 175-crore was spent for the Hogenakkal project.
When asked about the criticism by the principal opposition party, Mr. Stalin challenged them to prove that the works were not started. He is ready to prove the charges with the evidence if the Opposition Leader has come forward at their convenient time to witness the progress of the works. Opposition parties are politicising the issue. "The DMK government had never bother about the criticisms and will continue its good services to the society", he said.
Later Mr. Stalin laid the foundation stones for 28 works at an investment of Rs. 17.17-crore. The Samathuvapuram concept initiated by the DMK government headed by Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi during its rule between 1996 and 2001 was kept in abeyance by the successive AIADMK government. At least they should have maintained the 145 Samathuvapurams established by the DMK government. The DMK government, which came in to power in the year 2001, allocated Rs. 16.80-crore for the maintenance of the Samathuvapurams. Mr. Karunanidhi announced another 95 Samathuvapuram to mark the life-time of his mentor Periyar. As per the announcement the government has established 29 Samathuvapurams during 2008-09, 30 Samathuvapurams during the year 2009-10, of this 14 were already declared opened, the Sundangipatti Samathuvapuram is the fifteenth one. The rest of the Samathuvapuram's will be thrown open to the public before February 15, 2011. Another 36 Samathuvapurams will be established during the financial year 2011-12.
He added that so far he had distributed revolving funds to 1,78,437 Self Help Groups and spent 115 hours for distribution for the last four and half years.
In his felicitation speech, CPI (M) M.L.A. Dillibabu urged Mr. Stalin on the sanctioning of a Government Arts College and Malibnum factory as it will give employment opportunity to as many as 5000 educated youths in Harur region.
He also insisted the government to extend the benefit of the Kalaignar Veetu Vasathi Thittam to the people living in hilly areas and tribal's and give away patta to the landless labourers. He sought the upgradation of the Harur Town Panchayat as Municipality.
Mr. V. Mullaivendan, Morappur M.L.A. (DMK) endorsed the demands of Mr. Dilli Babu.
He also urged the government to issue free sugarcane saplings to the farmers in the district. R. Thamaraiselvan, Dharmapuri M.P. appealed to Mr. Stalin to allocate Rs. 55 crores (fifty per cent) of the cost of the Rs. 110-crore Dharmapuri-Morappur new Railway line.
R. Ananthakumar, District Collector presided over the function. R. Ravichandran, Project Officer, DRDA welcomed the gathering. Maheshwari Ravikumar, District Revenue Officer proposed vote of thanks.

"Wrong calculation"

As the election to the State Assembly is round the corner during the first half of the next year, the Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin called up on the ruling DMK's former ally, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) not to allow their calculations go wrong.
In lighter vein, he referred the speech of the CPI (M) M.L.A. Mr. P. Dillibabu at function that he was wrong in his calculations and announced that the function was ``Aimberum Vizha'', but the function was organized for ``Aaruperum Vizha'' which were inauguration of Samathuvapuram, distribution of houses to the beneficiaries of KVVT, distribution of revolving fund, inauguration of new buildings, laying foundation, inauguration of new buildings and distribution of welfare assistance.

Base Corporation to enter telecom and auto sectors

Chennai, Nov 8 (IANS) Bangalore-based battery manufacturer Base Corporation has decided to enter the telecom and automotive equipment sectors from its proposed Rs.432-crore plant near Hosur in Tamil Nadu.
Presently we are catering to the automotive replacement market and the inverter segment out of our Himachal Pradesh plant which is constrained by capacity. The big Tamil Nadu plant will enable us to venture into auto segments-all categories- as well as to other industries like telecom," Chairman and Managing Director Girish Arora told IANS.
He said the plant near Hosur will come up on 75 acres and the company is in the process of acquiring another 75 acres.
The proposed project will be funded with a mix of debt (Rs.270 crore), internal accruals and equity infusion by the promoters," Arora said.
Base Corporation makes flat plate and tubular battery variants and sells under the brand Base Terminal.
The company also imports and sells Panasonic brand batteries.
"We are the sole distributor for Panasonic batteries in India for a long time. There is no conflict of interests as the items we sell under Panasonic brand are special batteries," Arora said.
He said the Tamil Nadu plant is expected to start commercial production in two years time as construction is expected to begin in three months time.
KRISHNAGIRI: Tenders for construction of 50,000 sq. ft. building structure for the Information Technology Park at Viswanathapuram in Hosur at a cost of Rs. 40 crore and infrastructural facilities at a cost of Rs. 26 crore were finalised, Santhosh Kumar, Managing Director, Electronic Corporation of Tamil Nadu Limited, said here on Wednesday.
He told reporters here that the construction work for the IT Park will be inaugurated soon by the Information Minister Poongothai Aladi Aruna in Hosur.
The space in the ELCOT IT park building will be rented out to the IT companies. In addition to this out of the 175 acres available for distribution to the IT companies, 35 acres were distributed to various companies so far.

Hosur Bus Stand:

HOSUR: The DMK Government has always taken special interest in developing Hosur, Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin said here on Sunday. Inaugurating the new bus stand, he said soon after the DMK came to power in 2006, it had announced to build 53 bus stands in town panchayats and municipalities across the State. The Hosur bus stand was the 25th one. The construction of the other bus stands would be finished in another two months.
The Hosur Municipality would get Rs. 1.20 crore as revenue a year from the new bus stand. This would enable the municipality to become self-reliant, Mr. Stalin added.
Under the Hogenakkal Drinking Water and Flurosis Mitigation Scheme, Hosur region consisting of Denkanikottai, Thali and Shoolagiri would get benefitted. Among the total allocation for the scheme, works worth Rs. 420 crore were being carried out in this region, he said Mr. Stalin distributed welfare assistance to 1,999 beneficiaries to the tune of Rs. 10.93 crore.

CHENNAI:

A formal notification for the setting up of an Information Technology Special Economic Zone by ELCOT at Viswanathapuram in Hosur has been issued by the Central government.

Information Technology Minister Poongothai Aladi Aruna on Monday told reporters at Hosur that the IT-SEZ would be spread over 177 acres and ELCOT would construct a Rs.14-crore complex measuring 50,000 sq ft.

Tenders to erect the building and other basic infrastructure have been floated and construction would start in a couple of months. Expressions of interest would be invited from IT majors for land allotment.

Once the IT park comes into being, around 10,000 educated people will get employment in the region. As there is a huge demand for software and IT-enabled services, the State government is developing eight IT parks in Tier-II and Tier-III towns in the State, she said.

Accompanied by officials of NASSCOM, and ELCOT, Dr. Aruna visited the States first Panchayat Business Process Outsourcing-cum-call centre at Sanasandiram in Krishnagiri district and inspected the functioning of the Tamil Nadu State Wide Area Network at the Collectorate.

Dr. Aruna also inaugurated the Recruitment Processing Outsourcing unit at Uthangarai with 60 seats. Currently it employs around 30 persons.

This centre, functioning in association FOSTeRA, will undertake resume mining and reverse process outsourcing functions and inform U.S.-based firms about the availability of skilled workers.

The IT Minister visited a couple of rural Common Service Centres in the district that are offering Business to Citizen (B2C) services, such as railway ticket booking and airline booking.

Government to Citizen services will be introduced in the next 25 days.
