Reasons to Invest in Hosur:
Hosur is a mere 20 km away from Electronic City, Bangalore's IT hub, and the Tamil Nadu government wants to make the industrial township a giant satellite town like Gurgaon or Noida.
The Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (ELCOT) will commission a study shortly along with the Confederation of Indian Industry on how Hosur can be transformed into an information technology and IT-enabled Services hot spot. The Software Technology Parks of India plans on setting up a park at Hosur.
The Union ministry of IT and communications has asked the Tamil Nadu government to allot land for the building. "With a TIDEL-type park, Hosur is a very viable idea. Lots of residential complexes will be thrown in between Hosur and Bangalore. Travel time is faster outside Bangalore to Hosur rather than within the city.
Growth Potential:
If the proposal sent by the Krishnagiri district Collectorate gets the stamp of approval from the Tamil Nadu Government, Hosur will become the next Noida or Navi Mumbai, giving Bangalore a run for its money with regard to industrial development.
The collectorate has completed a comprehensive study of the Hosur belt and suggested, among other things, a software technology park, a floriculture park, a special economic zone (SEZ) and the development of massive commercial and residential areas. Hosur has been dovetailing on the strength of Bangalore's talent pool, but industrial growth has been stagnant for some years now.
Having been an industrial hub for over two decades and home to the manufacturing plants of Ashok Leyland, Titan Industries, T.T.K. Prestige, Reckitt Benckiser, Hindustan Lever, TVS Motors and so on, Hosur is now eyeing investments from IT (information technology) majors.
The town is just 30 km from Bangalore's Electronics City and sees enormous potential to woo companies from across the border.
The Union Ministry of Commerce has approved the Hosur SEZ, which will come up on over 3,000 acres at a cost of Rs. 512 crore. It is likely to attract investments from the IT sector. Prohibitive land prices in Bangalore, the collectorate believes, will be the driver for companies in and around Bangalore to think of moving across the border.
"It is much faster to reach Electronics City from Hosur than from Bangalore city, though this may change once the elevated expressway comes up between Madivala and Electronics City," says Mr. Vakil, a developer.
Maran pitches in Making a pitch for Hosur is no less than Union Minister for Communications and IT Dayanidhi Maran, who wants the town to compete with Bangalore and has been talking to industries here to invest across the border.
