EVR Periyar building in Chennai likely to house TN real estate regulatory body’s office

Official sources, who are familiar with the development, said that the Tamil Nadu Housing Board (TNHB) has made a suggestion in this regard to the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority.

The iconic E V R Periyar Building on Anna Salai at Nandanam in Chennai expected to accommodate the headquarters of Real Estate Regulatory Authority of Tamil Nadu.

A spokesperson informed that a proposal been communicated to CMDA to house the Regulatory Authority’s office in the said building. CMDA resource confirmed that three premises, together with E V R Periyar Building, were currently under consideration for this intention. After the state government ratifies the Tamil Nadu Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Rules, 2016, a regulatory authority should be established. The authority will carry out various functions including implementation of the Act, registration of real estate projects and agents, extension of registration of real estate projects and revocation. Although the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act (RERA) came into effect on this past May 1 all over the country, Tamil Nadu up until now has not notified the Rules under this Act after issuing the draft rules for open comments in January this year.
